Route map
The CUREE route map and its replacement
We developed the CUREE route map as a simple visual tool for teachers and leaders to find their way to free evidence based resources on the internet. However, since last updated (February 2011) these sources are disappearing as the agencies that provide them are wound up and/or the websites are dismantled as part of the Government's rationalisation. Unfortunately, 'rationalisation' seems to mean removal or archiving (usually in an unsearchable form).
CUREE is currently working on finding alternative ways of making these resources available. One of those ways, bespoke route maps for individual schools, is already available (click here for details). We are also developing more generic versions focussing on curriculum or pedagogic topics or themes of current interest. In our new world, this can no longer be a free service but we intend to make it as low cost as we can. If you have a topic focus you would particularly like to feature, please let us know (click here). Click here if you would simply like to know when the alternative route maps are available.
In the meantime, we have left the original routemap on our website but with this warning that many of the links are no longer active.
The route map tries to answer the following questions:
- Where can I explore why things do and don’t work/underpinning rationale/theory?
- Where can I find practitioner friendly research summaries?
- Where can I find tools and activities to involve/support my colleagues in using research and evidence?
An interactive version of the route map can be downloaded here [PDF, 630 KB] Note that you will have to register on the site to access the download, registration is quick and easy, simply click 'register' at the top of the page and complete the form.
CUREE offers two other services to help you to find the most suitable resources and to tailor them to the specific needs of your school or cluster.
Customised Route Map
Your customised route map would be an interactive resource for locating research resources where practitioners can be assured that the materials are based on sound evidence. These web-based resources and tools are often free from a variety of organisations that support teachers, school leaders and other practitioners and help staff engage in continuous professional learning knowing that their efforts are more likely to have real positive impact on their students.
We customise the route map to give it a particular focus to meet the needs of individual organisations, groups or schools. We work with you to identify your needs for research, perhaps identifying the evidence that might underpin your school development plan, or resources relating to a specific area of teaching/learning and professional development. We can then create a bespoke route map for your use. Below is a recent example for a primary school although the links on this example are not live. These are available from £395 for primary schools and £595 for secondary schools. For more information contact rebecca.raybould@curee.co.uk.
School Development Plan – Support Service
When you are planning your school budget or school development Plan it is more important than ever to ensure that you target funds so as to maximise their impact on pupil outcomes. CUREE are able to use our in-house expertise and extensive evidence database to help you identify approaches that are likely to be effective for pupils at scale and/ or weigh up the probable cost effectiveness of different options you are already considering. During this service you will work with one of our experienced researchers to explore your options for the SDP and we can highlight where there is a mature evidence base for the impact of particular teaching strategies on enhancing pupil outcomes. This will help you direct school resources towards priorities and strategies that will have the greatest impact on the pupils. Please contact rebecca.raybould@curee.co.uk for details of this service.
