Maximising the performance of all staff to achieve excellent outcomes for their learners and continuously developing the organisation are high on the agenda of every school and college. There is considerable evidence that effective mentoring and coaching are powerful learning tools to help you achieve this, particularly in an environment where there is likely to be less prescription about teaching - you need to learn from the best and share that practice. At the same time you might want to be reassured that your development activities are based on sound evidence about what works. This is where CUREE can help. We have developed coaching and mentoring resource packs for CPD leaders which are all based on rigorous evidence about what really works for teachers and for pupils.

Coaching forms a key part of the post Threshold teachers’ professional standards and is highly valuable for your whole school staff but how might you go about getting the right foundation of development in place for your school? You could send a couple of your managers on coaching training days to help them improve their skills in these key areas, but all the evidence suggests that without sustained, complementary in-house collaborative activity, tailored to the needs of the whole school this isn’t likely to feed through into benefits for young people. The CUREE suite of resource packs will help you to run in-house programmes to meet your needs and those of your colleagues. 


If finding the time for CPD is a problem in your school, these packs will enable you to create sustained learning by enabling you to build an integrated programme from bite-sized activities threaded into work you and your colleagues are doing anyway. Coaching does involve making time for high quality, structured learning conversations rooted in day to day evidence about your pupils’ learning experiences – but these packs show you how to manage that creatively and efficiently, reducing precious time away from the classroom and maximising the learning value of time in it. 


Every single resource you need to run sessions for and with colleagues is assembled here from detailed session plans, through video clips and learning activities to hand outs and model answers. The resources simply require printing and photocopying!

For the cost of one day's supply cover you will have the tools to build a sustained in-house CPD programme for colleagues, which will enable you to build, long-term, a mentoring and coaching culture and infrastructure. 


The packs are specifically designed to cater for the individual needs of different schools and can be used by CPD leaders, regardless of your previous experience knowledge and experience. You can use the packs to run workshops and twilight sessions, structure meetings, or just work with colleagues on a one-to-one basis.

If you are a small school we recognise the specific challenges that you face and have developed a package of support and materials specifically for you. 


For Training Schools who have a responsibility for CPD across a cluster of schools we have also designed and run specific programmes and have discounted prices for accessing multiple packs which can forma sustainably element of your outreach work. 


Where there are schools with high proportions of Trainee Teachers, GTP teachers or NQTs we have packages of development to enhance both the professional learning skills of those new to the profession and revitalise the skills of  experienced mentors.

<h2>Mentoring and coaching skills building and development</h2>
<h3>Development sessions for schools and colleges</h3>

The Effective Mentoring and Coaching resources are designed to be easy to use by CPD leaders in schools and colleges without external training being essential to getting started. However some schools and networks are keen to have a development session which kick starts a coaching programme or which helps to take an established programme to its next level. In these situations training sessions have been found to be helpful, engaging and confidence boosting. 


We can help a wide range of schools, for example Training Schools supporting their Trainee teachers in how to be effective Professional Learners, Special Schools looking for whole school coaching skills, to Primary schools encouraging their support staff to co-coach - we can create the right development half or full day for your school.   


As well as offering twilight and INSET sessions CUREE also offers a Personalised support package for those who lead CPD in a school.  For £1800 you can access:

	<li>a half-suite i.e. three of the resource packs covering Specialist Coaching, Co-coaching, Mentoring or a Whole school approach, </li>
	<li>a starter twilight or full day INSET delivered by one of our consultants in your school, </li>
	<li>a range of tailored research resources such as tasters which provide a focus for co-coaching sessions to improve practice in your school and to embed the learning</li>
	<li>personal consultation and telephone support to help you craft and deliver additional development sessions using the materials</li>
	<li>access to the Effective Mentoring and Coaching website forum where you can find support via our consultants and other users by posting messages and ideas on the discussion boards. </li>
	<li>bi-monthly Newsletter or email communications for School Leaders and others direct to their inbox which highlight recent and useful evidence and tools </li>
	<li>an annual intensive training session held in CUREE’s head office where you can explore the latest knowledge on CPD practice*. </li>
</ul>

*participants are responsible for their own travel and accommodation.

<h2>Development sessions through LA networks and school clusters </h2>

CUREE has worked with numerous Local authorities and clusters of schools who want to develop mentors or coaches in their area. 
For these schools and Local Authorities we are able to develop a tailor-made training programme. Using a selection of the Effective Mentoring and Coaching materials, sessions can be constructed to fit into half or full day sessions ideally delivered in a programme over a number of terms as we know that the longitudinal nature of CPD is most effective.

We are also considering hosting development sessions at the CUREE offices in Coventry which will be open to any interested school CPD leaders.
