About us

Three female academics discussing research and evidence-informed educational policy and practiceCUREE works at the leading edge of research and evidence-informed educational policy and practice. Our mission centres on promoting the use of evidence by building bridges between academic research and professional practice. We support practice-driven action research, develop tools for Continuing Professional Development (CPD), for organisational leadership and for teaching and learning. We believe in modelling good practice in everything we do and our work in consultancy, advice, development and training in the use of research and evidence is consistently informed by the principles underpinning effective mentoring and coaching in education.

We work in collaboration with a range of individuals and organisations. Our clients include national organisations such as the General Teaching Council (GTC), the government, in particular the DCSF and DIUS, the National College (formerly the NCSL), the Quality Improvement Agency (QIA) and Qualifications and Curriculum Development Agency (QCDA). We also work with schools, networks and Local Authorities across the country.

CUREE is led by Philippa Cordingley and is based in Coventry. In recent years we have contributed very substantially to the growing shift towards evidence-informed practice in education by:

  • making research and evidence useful and attractive to practitioners and policy makers;
  • increasing the interest and skills of practitioners and policy-makers in using and interpreting research findings;and
  • using processes as a means of enhancing teaching and learning.

Our work ranges from creating detailed technical reports to lively articles and activities, tools and multi media resources designed to be used in practical contexts by teachers. Our team is also skilled in producing research based briefings and tools for policymakers.

Our experience

CUREE has a lively team of teachers, writers, researchers and information specialists who combine their respective pedagogic, research, knowledge-management and journalistic skills to bring research to life for practitioner and policy audiences. We believe that learning that is to be put to use in complex work settings like classrooms is best done collaboratively. We have also developed expertise in facilitating networked and research-orientated partnerships.
